I've said this before, and I will say it again. With the quantity of gold that is still in the ground, finding gold is a sure thing!
There are several things that you must know however, if you are going to enjoy success on your first trip out. Of course there are no guarantees,
but if you don't know these things that first success will depend strictly on pure luck. I know from my experiences 30 years ago, that pure luck only
brings that first success after some hard work and disappointments.
The first very important thing is to prospect in an area where gold is known to exist ! The second very important thing is to know what the gold you will find will look like ! This may sound funny, but it will not look the same as the ring on your finger. To make things even worse, what you will see that does have the same deep luster that your ring has, is known as "fools gold" , or pyrite. On my first trip out I just about cornered the market on pyrite, which I found out has no use or value. I had done one thing right, as I had gone to a stream that did contain gold. However, I just got excited and took the first shiny stuff I saw, and hauled it home. The book you see here - The GREAT AMERICAN GOLD RUSHES - VOLUME I of The GREAT AMERICAN SERIES of books on gold is 35 pages long, and will teach you both of those two things you must know. It contains every recorded, or reported location where gold has been found in the USA. Also, in very plain language it will explain how to absolutely identify pyrite, so you won't haul it home. This book can be purchased individually, or you can get it as volume I of the three volume book"FINDING GOLD In The USA". Buy now individually for $19.95
Once you have a claim picked out, you will need to know how to "read" the stream bed, or the dry wash to locate the places most likely
to contain the gold. The GREAT AMERICAN SERIES - Volume II - FINDING The GOLD is only 9 pages long. You will need
to read it more than a time or two, until you thoroughly understand what the sketches are showing you. Besides learning where to look,
you will also learn the various ways of removing the material containing the gold. This book can be purchased individually, or you
can get it as volume II of the three volume book"FINDING GOLD In The USA"

But you're not done yet. You must know how to reduce that gold bearing material down to a concentrate of brown sand, black sand and the gold. You will understand the basics of how dredging, sluicing, high banking and dry washing work, and why they work. I have written all of my material with the novice prospector in mind, using concise straight forward information that can be easily understood. Even so, you should re-read and study these pages until it all makes sense and you understand it.
The GREAT AMERICAN SERIES - Volume III - PANNING is where the fun begins. You will for the first time be able to see the
pieces of gold, and with this "TIP IT & DIP IT" method you will have it in your sample bottle soon.
When I was trying to learn about panning, there were only instructions that talked about swirling the pan until you developed a technique. Also you needed to develope a wrist action that would not let any of the gold slip out of the pan. After all you didn't want to work hard finding it, just to lose part of it in the final process. The gold I had in the pan must have traveled a mile in circles around the pan. I just hesitated to pour anything out of the pan for fear of losing some gold. At first I always panned into a tub so I could retrieve anything that got away. And that is always a good idea, even with the tip it & dip it method. The big difference is that it takes for ever at first with the old methods. I would spend a whole evening panning what I had dug during the day. The tip it & dip it method takes away the fear of losing any gold because you can easily see everything going over the edge of the pan. Because of that you will remove the excess material faster, and you will end up with clean, easy to retrieve gold left in the bottom of the pan. You will be comfortable with this process within 20 minutes, or less. There are 12 pages, with illustrations to guide you through each of the 5 easy to understand steps. This book can be purchased individually, or you can get it as volume III of the three volume book "FINDING GOLD In The USA".Buy now individually for $16.95
